Mark those Calendars

The dates have been announced for the 2010 Little League Senior Softball World Series:

August 8-10. 2010

The location stays the same, the

Lower Sussex Little League Complex in Roxana, Delaware.

We're looking for volunteers to help in phases of the event. You don't have to be part of a Little League group to help - anyone who wants to help is welcome: send a note to Info@district3.org.

Hope to see YOU in August.

Southwest beats District 3 - 3-2
It all came down to pitching, and timely base running at the Championship game of the 2009 Little League Senior Softball World Series held in Roxana, Delaware Saturday morning.

Southwest winning relief pitcher Kara Anderson only allowed 2 runs on 3 hits during her time in the circle. District 3's Taylor Cassidy allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, and that was the difference in the game. Starter Grace Thaxton actually picked up a save in relief of Anderson when she returned to finish the game with the score 3-2 in the top of the 6th.

Southwest struck first when Katie Killian drove in Special Pinch Runner (SPR) Kari Payton to put the visitors up 1-0. Payton was running for starter Grace Thaxton who had doubled to lead off the inning.

District 3 came back in the bottom of the 5th when with 2 outs, Christyanna Davis singled, and Alexis Oliphant walked. Both then scored when southwest's 3rd baseman couldn't handle a ball hit by Brooke Evans, giving the Host team the lead.

Southwest struck back in the next inning with Caitlan Herbet's dead center home run, followed by a series of plays that loaded the bases with one out.

Amelia Montgomery popped-up up to short and District 3's Davis dropped what was an infield fly ball. In the confusion over the play, Thaxton raced home for what turned out to be the winning run.

District 3 just couldn't mount a comeback after Thaxton returned to the mound, and the championship went to the Southwest - Calhoun, Louisiana's West Ouachita Little League. It was the first appearance in a Little League World Series for West Ouachita and they came home the winner.

The equipment is now being put away until next August when the World returns to Roxana for the next playing of the Senior Softball World Series!

District 3 vs Southwest in the Finals
In the first semi final, Southwest gradually pulled ahead of Central, scoring in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings to win 9-1. Kara Anderson got the win in relief of Grace Thaxton.

In the 2nd game, District 3's Stephanie Wheatley scattered 5 hits, while her teammates pounded out 4 runs on 11 hits to put Laurel into the finals for the first time..

First pitch Saturday is at 11:00 AM - game is live on ESPN2 if you can't make it.

Pool Play is Over - Single Elimination Begins
First the Consolation Games:
At Connie Mack Field:
3:00 PM EMEA vs Georgetown/Millsboro
5:30 PM East vs Southeast
8:00 PM West vs Asia Pacific

And the Semi-Final rounds
At Ebbets Field:
5:30 PM - Central vs Southwest
8:00 PM - District 3 vs Latin America

Great 5 days of pool play, now its down to the Championship rounds. The two winners at Ebbets Friday play Saturday morning at 11 AM for the 2009 Little League Senior Softball World Series Championship to be broadcast on ESPN2

Two Close Games, then Fireworks!
The night started with EMEA (0-3) vs Central (2-0), which could have been a blowout, right? Wrong!

Coleen Doyle had an infield single in the 2nd inning, advanced to 2nd after a walk, then scored when Janette Zukowski's fly ball to right was dropped.

After that it was a pitching show with Maddie Byrd and EMEA starter Autumn Diaz putting up 6 strikeouts. Over on the Central side, Ariel Sheets and Jenny Bals combined on the 1 run win - Bals the winner with 7 K's.

At 8, two games kicked off.

Latin America and West kept each other off the scoreboard until the 3rd inning, when Latin America batted 8, and scored 4 runs. The team from Puerto Rico, then batted around in the 4th (5 runs - including Diane Rivera's 2 run homer) and 6 batters in the 5th (3 runs) to win the game 12-0.

Dayanne Solivan kept West off the scoreboard, pitching a 1 hit shutout to get the win.

Meanwhile, over at Connie Mack, the team from the East played a close game with the Southwest, winning 2-1.

  1. Games tonight, as the Pools tighten up. It looks like a team could get in with one loss - we'll see.

West and Latin America Win in the Afternoon
The two smallest teams teams in terms of numbers squared off at Ebbets Field Monday afternoon in the heat. You would think the team from Virginia would be used to the Delmarva weather, but it was the team from the Mountains - the West who held on to win 3-2.

In the 2nd game, EMEA held on against Latin America's top pitcher, Nemesis Vega, who took a no hitter into the 5th. Latin America also turned 2 double plays. EMEA pitchers Maddie Byrd and Lindsey Jones combined on 9 K's, but no hitting doomed EMEA to a 4-1 loss.

There are 3 Games on Tuesday night. Europe takes on Central at 5:30, The West faces Latin America and the Southwest takes on the Southeast.

What's New on the Website
If you are new to the Little League Senior Softball World Series (LLSSWS as we sometimes call it) Web Site, here are a few places to get game information - some of it live.

  1. Check out the Schedule - we put the final score of the games on the schedule once the game is over.

  1. The game number on the schedule will also send you to the game page - it has a running Line Score with notes on the game. After the game, we upload the COMPLETE scorebook and box score, usually withing 10 minutes.

  1. The standings page is also updated near real time won-loss numbers.

You can also news and notes on the front page. We provide a 4 game wrapup after the 2nd set of games each night, and we update things as they happen. If you want the "official scoop" you'll find it here.

Whoa - Who Beat Who?
Two of the top International teams in Softball are ASOFEM Little League from Puerto Rico, and the Asia-Pacific team from the Philippines.

Well, hold on to your hats, but Central kocked off Latin America 3-0 in the early game Sunday, then Asia Pacific fell to Southwest 2-0.

At the same time the Host team Laurel came back on the East to win 2-1 on Kelsey Oliphant's bottom of the 6th inning home run, followed by Brooke Evan's bunt single that led to the winning run later in the inning.

In the second late game, the Southeast team rolled over Europe in a game that actually was closer than the 17-5 score.

Two games tomorrow. Southeast takes on West, and Latin America will challenge EMEA. Games start at 1:30 at the park in Roxana

YouCastr to Provide Coverage of Pool Games
YouCastr.com in conjunction with Delmarva Sports Webcasting will be providing live pay per view web coverage of all but the final game of the 2009 Little League Senior Softball World Series.

The Field is Set - Let the Games Begin!
Some teams are "first timers," and 4 have been here before. And now the field is set for the 2009 Little League Senior Softball World Series.

Listing the teams by Pool:

A: Asia Pacific: ILLAM Central Little League, Makati City, Philippines
Host District III: Laurel Little League, Laurel, Delaware
East: Haverstraw Little League, Haverstraw, New York
Southwest: West Ouachita Little League, Calhoun, Louisiana

B: Central: District 11, South Bend, Indiana
EMEA: Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) , Ramstein, Germany
Latin America: ASOFEM Little League, Maunabo, PR
Southeast: Damascus Community Little League, Damascus, Virginia
West: Northwest/Mile High Little League, Butte, Montana

This year's tournament features the returning Senior Softball Champion, Latin America and three other teams who have been to Roxana before. The Host Team from Laurel has players who have been here for 3 years.

District 11 representing Central returns, but with only 1 player from last year. The EMEA representative returns with many of the same players - they won 4 straight title games to earn their championship.

Then there is a team that is the first team in their league to ever reach a World Series. The Northwest/Mile High team will have to adjust to Delaware's "thicker air," but they've been honored at home and want to bring some of that glory to Roxana.

The Damascus Community League team is from a small town in Virginia - its their first time in the Senior Softball series, and will bring their "scrappy" style of play to Pool B.

The Haverstraw league had to beat Delaware's Felton team, then Pennsylvania Thursday to earn their berth. Playing one game a day will seem like a holiday for them. The West Oachita Little League already has a caravan of fans heading for Delaware.

It is too early to try to handicap the pool races. Everyone's chance at the final game would seem to be through returning champ, Latin America who bring most of their players back from last year's winner, but Laurel is still smarting from their early departure from the leaderboard last year and returns most of last year's team who are looking to finish their 2009 season on Saturday morning.

The 2009 Little League Senior Softball World Series field is set. Starting at 5:30 Sunday, the talk can stop as the girls decide the winner on the fields in Roxana.

WGMD FM To Air Host's Games
The Talk of Delmarva WGMD-FM 92.7 will be broadcasting all of the Host, District 3 softball games during the 2009 Little League Senior Softball World Series. Laurel Little League is the Host teams again this year.

Games to be broadcast include: the Sunday, August 9th 5:30 PM Opener against the East, Wednesday's 8 PM game with the Southwest team, and Thursday's 8PM game with Asia Pacific. Additional games will be added based on where District 3 plays next, Friday's quarterfinal games or consolation games depending on how District 3 plays in the pool play.

Semi Final games are played on Friday with the Final played at 11 AM on Saturday.

All of the games, except the final, are being webcast by   Delmarva Sports Webcasting on a pay per view basis. ESPN2 and ESPN360 will have the full and free audio and video broadcast of the Saturday final on Cable TV and the Internet.

Martin Donovan's interview with WGMD's Anthony Joseph can be found on the WGMD web site or by clicking here.

This is the first year that all of the World Series games will be available around the world allowing people who can't get to Delmarva the chance to watch the Little League World Series Action.

Teams start to arrive Friday, and opening ceremonies are at 3:30 PM Sunday at the Little League complex in Roxana, Delaware.

Montana & Louisiana Win the West
Northwest/Mile High LL of  Butte, Montana won the West Regional today, beating the Host team of Missoula, Montana 15-1.

More later tonight, but the all Montana Championship led to the first team from Montana in any Little League World Series, Ever.....!

Then later Wednesday night, the West Ouachita Little League of Calhoun, Louisiana beat the Texas West team 6-1 to secure the Southwest Regional Championship.

Northwest/Mile High and West Ouachita will be two of the "new" teams at the World Series in 2009. The Host, EMEA and Latin American teams are back for their second consecutive year.

Another Schedule Change!
If you checked out the revised schedule - brought about due to Canada's withdrawal - one team would be able to use just one pitcher through the entire tournament, something that wouldn't be fair to the other 8 still playing.

The schedule wizards got to work, and have shuffled the order of play to balance games with days off and now the four days of pool play are fair to all.

Check out the revised schedule page for the order of play.

Damascus to represent the SouthEast
Damascus Community Little League won the All Virginia Final to secure the SouthEast bid to the 2009 Senior Softball Little League World Series Monday.

The Damascus team had to get past Georgia yesterday, then beat the Host team 9-6 to advance.

The World Series starts Sunday, August 9th.
